Evaluation of nutritive value of forages from grasslands on the background of soil richness and N, P, K balances in chosen organic farms

Study was conducted in 2007 in 34 organic grassland farms with animal production. The aim of study was evaluation of content macroelements in forages from grasslands and of content of those elements in soil (level 0-20 cm) in the aspect of ruminants demand. Mean N, K, Ca and Mg contents in examined forages were optimal. The highest shortage concerned Na. Also K:Na ratio was a few times higher than optimal. Mean phosphorus content was satisfactory in pasture sward and a bit too low in remaining forages but significant fluctuations, particularly in case of phosphorus and potassium were stated. Generally the richest forage was pasture sward and the poorest hay. The soils of examined grasslands were usually acid and a bit acid. The content of assimilable phosphorus was low with exception of few farms, probably because of significant amounts of applied natural fertilisers. Similarly the potassium concentration was very high, that probably shows on the frequent application of liquid manure. In nearly of health soils the potassium content was too low. Magnesium and calcium content was exceptionally good only in a few cases showing the need of fertilisers application i.e. magnesium lime. N, P and K balances calculated acc. to method -on gate- showed that in spite of limited N sources some it surpluses with P and K deficiencies were stated. It shows on the need of their supplementation from other sources than natural fertilisers
