Notching is a pomological and technical practice mainly employed in pome fruit plantations. In highly intensive plum plantations there is a notching requirement, particularly in the training stage. The paper presents two-year results on employing notching in two plum cultivars (Stanley and Cacanska Rodna) grafted on wild cherry plum (Prunus cerasifera) and grown in dense planting. The results showed that there were different reactions as to the notching date as well as differences between the cultivars in their reaction to practice employed. An overall conclusion is that the reaction of both cultivars to notching was excellent and that the practice can be successfully employed in plum cultivars Stanley and Cacanska Rodna.
