Poppy belongs to oldest cultivated plants. In this paper 58 poppy samples of local population are investigated, samples are collected during implementation of project Save Old Vojvodina´s Varieties of Vegetable. This project implemented DP Agroinstitut Sombor (Serbia), today PSS Sombor, Sombor, since 2007. Collected samples have different morphological and production characteristics, length of stem, duration of vegetation period, color of flowers (white, violet, pink and red), color of seed (white, blue, gray-blue, brown-black), shape of seed case, weight of 1000 seed (0.3-0.6gr). Oil content is between 39.67 and 48.92%. This paper present only preliminary testings which have to be continued and from local population to choose most perspective population for advance of poppy production in Serbia.
