Removal of Carbonaceous (BOD5, COD), Nitrogen (TN) and Phosphorus (TP) matters can be done simultaneously in treatment of domestic wastewater in biological tanks. There are two types of dephosphorisation: chemical and biological one, both of them can be applied on the same plant. Carrousel type of biological tanks is applied on WWTP Subotica (Serbia). Phosphorus removal in Anaerobic and Anoxic tanks is possible because existing of internal recirculation between the tanks. For biological dephosphorisation, the most important is activity of usually present saprophyte bacterial community in activated sludge. These bacteria remove phosphorus from water by accumulating it in form of polyphosphates granules in own cells. Frequently used name of these organisms are PAO (Phosphorus Accumulating Organisms) and its forms clearly visible monocolonies in activated sludge. The target of this article is to present optimal process conditions for which biological dephosphorisation can be efficient, by the analysis of Start up Data (period June-December 2009) of WWTP Subotica.
