The aim of this research is analysis of the major morphometric characteristics of fruit of old apple varieties in western Bosnia. This research describes 25 old apple varieties commonly present in the mentioned area. The research was conducted in the period July-October 2010. The fruits of pomological analysis were sampled at the optimum time. With the conducted research, it is determined that the varieties Crvenka and Gospoinjaca protrude in all morphometric characteristics. Smallest fruits were noted on a variety Pantelinjaca (50.3 g), and largest (very large fruit) on Krupnjaca (456.6g). Based on content of soluble solids in cellular juice of fruits, varieties Ljepotica (15.09 Brix) and Gospoinjaca (13.63 Brix) stand out. All varieties have shown significant resistance toward diseases, while almost complete absence of disease symptoms was noted on varieties Bijela Petrovaca, Pantelinjaca and Crvanka. Inventarization and collection of old varieties is necessary in order to preserve the genetic diversity. Previous studies of old apple varieties in northern Bosnia clearly indicate that it is necessary to intensify the sustainable management of existing capacities, but also to create a policy that will encourage the production of certain old varieties of apple, in accordance with the economic constraints of heir commercial exploitation.
