The concept of sustainability and environmental protection is incorporated into the engineering and design of all components of wastewater systems. wastewaters with high-intensity coloring demand treatment that will also remove the coloring and render an effluent with a pleasing aesthetic appearance. How can industrial wastewater with an exceptionally high concentration of polluting matter, so high that the wastewater can be characterized as sludge matter, be best treated? Every step in the treatment process is made-up of several phases of treatment, depending on the characteristic of the wastewater to be treated and the required effluent quality. For every phase of the treatment process, there are several options available. Knowing the input wastewater quality parameters, the flow and the pollutant concentrations, one can design a wastewater treatment system, utilizing the principles of simplicity and efficiency, for industries that use coloring and pigments in their production processes. The simplest and most sophisticated processes for the efficient treatment of industrial wastewaters that contain pigments and coloring were researched in this paper. Three distinctive solution designs are presented for the treatment of industrial wastewater and sludges that include the following treatment steps: neutralization, coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration and evaporation. The aim is to have the treated industrial effluent discharged directly into the municipal wastewater system or reused in the industrial process.
