In the Republic of Srpska, forests and forest land cover 48.9% of the total area. 79% are state forests and 21% are private forests. The management of private forests is mainly based on the measures which are not clearly defined in the management plan and usually there are no realization projects, because of holding fragmentation. This paper deals with a mixed stand of sessile oak and common hornbeam in the area of Starčevica, in the aim of identifying the most favorable silvicultural works based on the researched data on the stand state, regeneration and site conditions. Optimal thinning weight and intensity were identified based on the model survey and analysis. Indirect stand conversion from the low into the high silvicultural form was recommended, i.e. the application of selective silvicultural treatments based on mixed selective cutting.
