One experiment was undertaken at Gezira Research Station Farm during season 2005/06 to evaluate the efficacy and selectivity of Sharoxy 24 EC (oxyfluorfen) for preemergence weed control in cotton in comparison to its standard Goal 24 EC (oxyfluorfen). Sharoxy alone or in mixture with Diuron irrespective of supplementary weeding displayed moderate to excellent control (52-96%) of weeds throughout the season similar to the standard treatment. All herbicides treatments irrespective of supportive hand weeding reduced weed biomass by 17-67% in comparison to the weedy check. All tested products had no visible phytotoxic effect on plant population. Sharoxy treatments with supplementary weeding significantly, gave higher yield than the unweeded control. The product treatments with supportive hand weeding attained seed cotton yield comparable to that of the weeded control and the standard Goal treatments with supplementary weeding
