This paper presents monitoring of soil moisture and near ground air temperature at Báb research site. Temporal dynamics of soil moisture at 10, 30 and 70 cm depth in clear cut and forest canopy was analyzed in the period from 22. 4. 2008 to 4.9.2008. Volumetric soil moisture was monitored in 30 min interval with Virrib sensors based on phase transmittance method. Higher soil moisture at all three horizons were observed in clear cut area during the all season. The biggest difference was documented at the 70 cm horizon - 4.15 volumetric %. Furthermore, compared to forest canopy, the temporal profile in clear cut area shows almost one month delay in decreasing trend after the spring saturation. Near ground (30 cm)air temperature was monitored in clear cut area and forest canopy with HOBO Pro temperature loggers in 30 min. interval. Period from 13. 5. 2008 to 21. 9. 2009 is analyzed. Mean daily temperatures as well as an average daily temporal profile are presented. On average, the near ground temperatures are higher in clear cut area by 0.53 °C. However, taking into account only day temperatures, these were higher by 2.69 °C. In daily profile, the greatest differences were identified between 13.00 and 14.00 hours. Finally, the proposal for further research is discussed.
