The aim of this work is to present the basic idea of the transformation of forest recreational and environmental functions into market mechanism using the extension of the theory of public goods. This work is based on the neoclassic classification of public goods, which divides goods into private and public, ergo into market and nonmarket ones. Based on the methodic approach in the project: Niche Markets for Recreational and Environmental Goods and Services from Multiple Forest Production Systems - RES project; FAIR1 CT95-0743), this article extends neoclassic theory of public goods and thereby provides the basic principie of environmental and recreational functions integration into the market mechanism. This principie will be applied in the Centre of Excellence: Adaptive forest ecosystems activity 4.3 Integration of Recreational and Environmental functions into the market mechanism.
