Vo Dai Hai
This research is conducted in 2009 to evaluate survival and growth rates as well as technical measures of 3 upstream protective forest models establishment developed by the Project for rehabilitation of natural forests in degraded watershed are in the North of Vietnam (RENFODA project): i) Establishment of upstream protective forests on bare land; ii) Planting native tree species under Acacia mangium canopy and iii) Planting Melaleuca on semi-flooded areas. The research results show that Erythrophloeum fordii, Peltophorum pterocarpum are the best trees for planting on bare land with Tephrosia candida is a nurse species; Erythrophloeum fordii are the promising species for strips and patches planting under Acacia mangium canopy. Melaleuca leucadendra planted with density 7,500 and 15,000 trees/ha is the suitable species for forest planting on semi-flooded areas.
