Effect of HCN content in dried cassava peeling on the haematological parameters of sind cross-bred cattle

Four Sind cross-bread bulls at 26-28 months of age and 290kg average live weight were fed a basal diet of natural grass and levels of dried cassava root peelings (RP) of: 0, 0.3, 0.6 and 0.9kg per 100kg LW (equal 0, 0.7, 1.4, 2.1mg HCN/kg LW). These treatments were applied in a 4*4 Latin Square arrangement with periods of 30 days on each treatment. Increasing the RP of the Sind cross-bred cattle ration reduced appetizing intake of natural grass and a little bit increased the respiratory rates and heart rates, but there was no significant difference between treatments. Increasing the offer of RP resulted in: reduced parameters relating red blood cells such as erythrocyte, hemoglobin (Hb) and hematocrit (Hct). However, the reduction occured in physiological normal threshold (unless erythrocyte parameter). Although there was not signed erythrocyte a trend in an increase mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and methemoglobin (MetHb), cells but the changes were in physiological normal threshold of cattle
