Influence of the different defoliation treatments on cv. Blatina yield and grape quality
2010
Branko Rogić
Experiment with various defoliation treatments on cv. Blatina was carried out on Potpolje – Citluk locality during 2007 and 2008. Vineyard was 4 years old and planted with on 1.7 x 1 m plant to plant distance. Various levels of cutting of shoots and defoliation as "green cutting" measures were done before blooming. The objective of research was to find out the "green cutting" measure which results with higher yield and better quality of cv. Blatina grape and wine. The experimental years were extremely droughty and warm. However, obtained results allowed emphasizing some important conclusions. The control variant (without defoliation) in both years showed bigger number of clusters, the average mass of cluster and better other indicators of yield, but with lower grape sugar content. Different grape quality was observed with different defoliation treatments as well as in different years. Due to unfavourable meteorological conditions during experimental years the research should be continued in order to find out more reliable conclusions about influences of defoliation on cv. Blatina yield and grape quality.
