Milk yield and milk composition responses to shearing were studied in Pleven blackhead ewes. Sheep were grazed on a natural pasture and supplemented with 500 g/head concentrate. Shearing in June at ambient temperature within the zone of thermoneutrality had no effect on daily milk yield. Milk fat content showed a post shearing elevation but the difference was significant (P 0.05) in the first day after fleece removal. Changes in protein concentrations, although being in the same direction, were smaller and insignificant. Shearing of sheep, even in thermoneutral environment, induce homeostatic adjustments, resulting in alterations of milk traits.
