Influence of water melon and musk melon varietal peculiarities on fruit yield and quality under conditions of Belarus | Влияние сортовых особенностей арбуза и дыни на урожайность и качество плодов в условиях Беларуси

In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were presented results of studying a collection material of watermelon (Citrullus vulgaris) and melon (Cucumis melo) plants. As a result of studies there were determined the most suitable for cultivation in the conditions of Belarus varieties and hybrids of the analysed plants. They selected varieties and hybrids were notable for their earliness of ripening and high yielding capacity indexes. It was concluded that for watermelon growing it was more efficient to use hybrids Romanza F1, Top Gan F1, Trofi F1, Farao F1 and varieties Garnyj and Ogonek. Their vegetation period was 72-76 days, and they were characterized by yielding capacity of 19,8-31,1 ton/ha with accumulation in fruit of 9,2-9,3% of dry matter, 8,2-8,5% of sugar amount, and the lowest nitrates content of 17-20 mg/kg. For melon cultivation there were recommended hybrids Mastrio F1, Primal F1 and varieties Zolotistaya and Kolkhoznita. Their vegetation period was 73-78 days, the obtained yielding capacity was at the level of 12,7-14,2 ton/ha with accumulation in fruit of 7,8-7,9% of dry matter, 6,0-6,2%% of sugar amount, and nitrates content of 78-83 mg/kg.
