In the conditions of the Republic of Belarus there were analyzed the most important factors of yield formation which determine the yielding capacity of hayfields and pastures. The total area hayfields and pastures in the Republic including agricultural organizations could be characterized by sustainable development. It is weakly bounded with the livestock number and is enough for full provision of animal husbandry branch with grass fodders. The fertility state of meadow soils reflects the nature of all agricultural activities and serves as a consequence of modern agricultural technologies. In course of the study there were determined measures directed towards meeting the requirements in grass forages, improvement of their quality indexes and lowering of prime costs. The agricultural and biological potential of hayfields and pastures varied within the limits of 6-10 ton/ha of fodder units. To the larger extent it was determined by the soil conditions; the influence of climatic factors (temperature; precipitations) was within 10%. There was marked positive dynamics of botanical composition of grass stands of improved meadows: in course of 2005-2010 there was improvement of a rate of leguminous and cereal grasses on 24,5% (137,4 thousand ha) as well as improvement of biological state of grass stands by means of creation of multi-component pastures.
