The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of pregnancy on milk performance (milk, fat and protein yields, fat, protein and lactose concentrations, somatic cell counts) in dairy cows of Czech Fleckvieh and Holstein breeds. Pregnant and non-pregnant twins (n=97) created from multiple births were compared. All cows were at their first lactation, experimental cows became pregnant 60 days after calving. In comparison with non-pregnant animals, there is a small and insignificant reduction in yields of milk, fat and protein and somatic cell counts in pregnant cows during the period of their pregnancy. Concentrations of milk components were identical in both groups of cows.
