Reducing the use of N-mineral fertilizers thrpugh adding compost, bio-fertilizers and their effects on some soil properties and maize or wheat yield

during two successive seasons (summer and winter) under surface irrigation system. The work aimed to decrease the use of N-fertilizer by using compost and bio-fertilizers, reducing environments pollution and study the residual effect of used treatments. The second was treated with previous amendments and inoculated with bio-fertilizer (Biogin), and the third one was ameliorated with mineral or compost and inoculated with bio-fertilizer (Microbin), by coating the grains before sowing. In order to study the residual effect of used treatments, wheat grains (c. v. Giza 168) were sowing in the plots after maize harvesting without any addition of N-sources. Wheat plants were cut after 180 days and furnished for analysis as showed in maize experiment. The obtained data were statistically analyzed. Soil samples were collected before planting zea maize and/or wheat and at harvest. Results indicated that there were slight decreases in the pH values and pronounced increases in the EC values due to the occurrence of some improvements in the soil properties. With regard to the effect of treatments on soluble ions of calcareous soil the data showed, an increase in the soluble ions concentration, but the chemical fertilizer especially at 100% seemed to be more effective. The amendments showed a markedly increases in soluble Ca. + and SO4 . Availability of macro and micro-nutrients in the soil extracts were significantly increased. Consequently the concentration of these nutrients in seeds of maize and grains of wheat were increased. Yields of maize grains and stalk as well as wheat seeds and straw (kg.fed. 1) gave high significant increase, especially in presence of compost and both biofertilizers (Microbin). It was interestingly noticed that application of Microbin combined with 75% of recommended dos increased maize and wheat production.
