The study of susceptibility of onion thrips, Thrips tabaci to new insecticides.

Thrips tabaci is one of the most important pest on onion and other species of Allium crops in the world. Chemical control of T. tabaci is a common control measure in onion fields. The purpose of this study was to find which of new insecticides were effective on thrips. Therefore seven insecticides and a check with 4 replications were conducted in randomized complete block design for two years. Treatments were a following: 1.imidaclopride (Confidor SC 350) as application 2. fipronil(Rejent G 0.2%) 3.spinosad (Tracer SC 240) 4.thiodicarb (Larvin DF 80) or diazinon (Diazinon EC 60%) 5.imidaclopride (Confidor SC 350) as drenching 6.deltamethrin (Decis EC 2.5%) 7.oxymatrin (Kingbo AS0.6%) 8.check ( without any control methods). Efficacies of treatments were determined 10 days after first and second treatments. The results showed that efficacies of foliage application were less than that of drenching treatment,as that effectiveness of spraying treatments was 50-56 at 10 days after first application. The second application could increase efficacy to 60-70%, however efficacy of imidaclopride treatment by drenching was 90-96%. Oxymatrin and spinosad as new insecticides were as effective as conventional insecticides .Bioassay of insecticides on T. tabaci by filter paper found that oxymatrin was the most toxic insecticide. Thus imidaclopride, oxymatrin and spinosad can be recommended for thrips control.
