The study of available soil water depletion in relation to seed yield and morphological characteristics in sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L.)

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of available soil water depletion on sugar beet morphological characteristics associated with final seed yield in Ardabil Agricultural and Natural Resource Research Center at 2002. The experimental design was a Randomized Complete Block (RCB) with four replicates. The analysis of variance showed that the effect of soil moisture amounts was significant on morphological characteristics. Mean comparision of morphological characteristics showed that bolting stage of sugar beet plant was sensitive to soil water deficit. whereas subjecting bolting stage to soil moisture caused to observe at least levels of main branch nomber, stem dry weight, leaf dry weight and plant biomass. Mean comparisin of seed yield showed that increasing soil moisture severe is associate with decrease seed yield. If sugar beet bolting stage subjected to soil water deficit, seed yield reduction trend is rapid. The highest correlation coefficient was found between seed yield with adjectives such as plant biomass, stem dry weight, leaf dry weight and main stem diameter. Multi regression results showed that having information about adjectives such as number of main stem, stem dry weight, leaf dry weight and plant biomass can help us to estimate sugar beet seed yield.
