The risk of weed resistance to the currently applied broadleaved herbicides in Iran due to repeated applications forces us to test for other new post-emergence herbicides as well. Field studies were conducted in 2004-2005 growing season at 5 locations in wheatgrowing areeas of Iran, to determine the spectrum of control with some new formulated post emergence herbicides on various broadleaved weeds commonly found in wheat fields, evaluate their weed suppression efficacy, and the effect of them on wheat yield.Herbicides were diflufenican plus MCPA at 0.5 L/ha, clopyralid plus 2, 4-D at 1.5, 2,and 2.5 L/ha, and fluroxypyr at 1.5, 2, and 2.5 L/ha as new herbicides, and tribenuron methyl at 20 g/ha, 2,4-D plus MCPA at 1.5 L/ha, bromoxynil plus MCPA at 1.5 L/HA, and dichloprop-p plus mecoprop-p plus MCPA at 2.5 L/ha as old herbicides, along with full season hand weeding control. Results indicated that new herbicides provided better control of broad leaved weeds than old herbicides. Of cource, new herbicides weed suppression ability differed depending on experimental location and weed species, In most cases, fluroxypyr at 2.5 L. ha could result in the highest precent weed population and dry matter reduction although not significantly different from diflufenican plus MCPA, and clopyralid plus 2, 4-D in many cases. Among old herbicides, bromoxynil plus MCPA generally controlled broadleaved weeds better, although weed suppression ability of this herbicide was dependent on location of experiment and weed species. The highest amount of wheat yield was obtained under new herbicides aoolication which did not differ significantly with wheat yield under full season hand weeding control.
