In a two-year trial in Kerman province, Chemical and mechanical swallow-wort (Cynanchum acutum)- SW- was investigated during the years 2008-2010. The experiments were in randomized complete blocks design with 4 replications and 22 treatments which hncluded: glyphosate (Roundup 41% SC) 6 L/ha+ 8 Kg/ha ammonium sulfate 1,2 and 3 times, paraquat (20% SL) at 3 L/ha, 1,2,and 3 times, gluphosinate of ammonium (Basta 20% SL) at 5 L/ha, 1,2 and 3 times, triclopyr (Garlon,20% EC) at 2 L/ha, 1,2 and 3 times, nikosulfuron (Cruz,4% SC) at 2 L/ha , nikosulfuron+ paraquat, nikosulfuron+ glyphosate, glyphosate (Weed Master, 30.5% SC), soil surface cut by shovel,1,2 and 3 times. All treatments were applied at the 10 cm growth stage of SW. Before and after each treatment, the number of SW was counted and percentage control was calculated compared to the situation before treatments started. Results indicated that any treatment of SW will reduce SW population, but the most trusted treatments are application of glyphosate, or Weed Master, repeatable if needed. Weed Master reduced SW density in the following spring better than other treatments, followed by nikosulfuron+glyphosate. Mechanical weed control reduced SW density by about 50%.
