Leaf rust of wheat is one of the important diseases in some wheat growing regions in Iran. In 2009-2010 cropping seasons, 732 of preliminary, elite and advanced wheat lines together with a susceptible cultivar, Bolani were tested for resistance to leaf rust at the seedling and adult plant stages. All lines tested with two isolates of Ahvaz and Gorgan. In the field test each line was planted in two rows of one-meter length with 30cm distance under artificial inoculation. A susceptible wheat cultivar (Bolani) was planted as spreader around the field and between the rows. Field assessments were based on disease severity according to the modified Cobb's scale (Peterson et al., 1948) and disease reaction (Roelfs et al., 1992). The resultes showed that among of 732 lines, 547 lines (74.72%) were resistant in adult plant stage. In the seedling stage more than 35% of tested lines were resistant, which is indicated of present seedling resistance gene/s. The remaining genotypes showed moderately to susceptible responses.
