2009
A`zizi, Farhad
The most important goal in corn breeding is producing high yield potential varieties with optimum stability. Producing of corn hybrids by crossing between inbred lines is a general method in maize breeding. This experiment was conducted to continue inbreeding sweet corn and popcorn inbred lines prepared in last years. 160 lines of sweet corn and 150 lines of popcorn in S2 to S5 generations existing in Maize and Forage Department of Seed and Plant Improvement Institute are evaluated and selected to selfing at Karaj, Iran in 2008. The length of each row was 5 meters. The Distance between rows and seeds in row was 75 and 40 centimeters respectively. About 2-10 plants were selfed in each line. Ears in each row were taken separately and the better ears were selected in order to planting in next year. Some traits were considered in selecting the lines such as : ear and plant devoid of diseases stand ability of plants, normal morphology, suitable plant height ( not too short ) number of seed per row and number of row in ear,. All agronomical operations were done based on current methods in maize and forage research department of SPII.
