The discursive conflict between language communities in Latvia in the field of ethnopolitics | Latvijas valodas kopienu diskursīvais konflikts etnopolitikas laukā

anglais. Several indicators of a conflict between the Latvian and Russian ethnolinguistic groups in Latvia are apparent at present. Different attitudes towards ethnopolitical issues, i.e., towards language, education and citizenship policies determine the conflict. However, there are no open socio-political or ethnic conflicts between the both language communities at the group level. The ethnic relations in Latvia are a widely explored phenomenon, yet up to now sociological studies have been approaching the subject with the help of discourse theory and analysis only, and in a fragmented manner. The study aims to explain the power relations of the two biggest language communities in Latvia in the field of ethnopolitics, approaching the subject through discourse theories and discourse analysis. The author explains the discursive conflict between the Latvian and Russian language communities as a form of power relations between the two ethnolinguistic groups, and analyses manifestations of the conflict in social reality. This article is based on the results of the author’s doctoral thesis “An Ethnopolitical Discourse Analysis: The Power Relations of Language Communities in Latvia” (2010).

Latvijas sabiedrībā ir vērojamas vairākas latviešu un krievu etnolingvistisko grupu konflikta pazīmes, ko raksturo atšķirīga nostāja valsts etnopolitikas jautājumos, proti, par valodas, izglītības un pilsonības politiku. Vienlaikus starp abām valodas kopienām nav atklātu sociāli politisku vai etnisku konfliktu grupu līmenī. Kaut arī Latvijas iedzīvotāju etnisko attiecību fenomens ir plaši pētīta tēma, līdzšinējos socioloģiskajos pētījumos ir fragmentāri izmantota diskursa analīzes pieeja šī fenomena izpētē. Pētījuma mērķis ir radīt diskursa teorijās un analīzē balstītu Latvijas lielāko valodas kopienu varas attiecību skaidrojumu etnopolitikas laukā, definējot diskursīvo konfliktu kā šo kopienu varas attiecību formu un pētot tā transformācijas iespējas sociālajā realitātē rīcības formā. Raksta pamatā ir autores promocijas darba „Etnopolitisko diskursu analīze: valodas kopienu varas attiecības Latvijā” (2010) galvenie rezultāti.
