At the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM), research into the manufacture of urea particleboards from the oil palm trunk shows that 19 mm-thick urea particleboards with 8% resin content should have a minimum density of 700 kg/m³ in order to satisfy the requirements of Type 1 Board, Standard Board, as stipulated in the British Standards. However, equal amounts of flakes of oil palm trunk and other cellulosic materials could also be used to manufacture urea particleboards with better strength properties at lower board densities.
