Rain and snow fall water samples were analyzed at the Ludovitova site (15 km in north direction from the Nitra town). The pH value varied between 4.30 and 5.15 during rainfall and between 3.25 and 5.25 during snow fall, which closely correlates with rainfall or snow fall intensity. The pH values of rainwater and of snow water were 4.8 and 4.3, respectively. Conductivity of rain and snow water was decreasing during rainfall (in water this ranged from 88 to 12 micro S per cm, in snow this value amounted to the range of 35 to 9 micro S per cm). Average conductivity in rainwater samples was 31, in snow this value was 14 micro S per cm. The formation of condensation nuclei occurred in the cloud layer of atmosphere (slow rainfall and the highest sulphate contents in water) in the first stage. Washing of atmosphere caused by heavy rain and the highest content of sulphates in water occurred in the second stage. Slow snow fall was more effective for washing of atmosphere. SO2 concentrations in the ground atmosphere from 14th October till 12th December and from 8th December till 25th January amounted to 57 and 109 micro g per m3, respectively.
