A survey of major pests of potatoes in Malaysia showed that Spodoptera sp., aphids, thrips and mites are found in the highlands, mid-elevation areas and in the lowlands. Of these, thrips and mites are the most important. In addition, mealy bugs were found to be serious in seed store houses in Cameron Highlands. A survey of the population of winged aphids in Cameron Highlands showed that aphids occurred throughout the year; the number increased during drier months and decreased during wet periods. A preliminary study on the use of pesticides to control mealy bugs in sprouting houses showed that neem and pint oil mixture, Selecron and Karate are effective.
