Morpho-physiological aspects of Binasail for its improved yield potential over the parent Nizersail [rice variety of Bangladesh].

The rice variety Binasail had comparatively erect and wider leaf size, more leaves and higher leaf area per hill. The varieties Binasail and Nizersail both showed similar relative growth rate, net assimilation rate, leaf area ratio, specific leaf area, grain size and harvest index. However, more leaves and corresponding more leaf area in Binasail increased the photosynthetic capacity. This capacity helps Binasail to produce significantly higher crop growth rate and higher biological yield. This higher biological yield and higher partitioning capacity of increased drymatter into panicles in grain tilling stage promoted Binasail to have longer panicles and more grains per panicle. These are the key to the improvement of yield in Binasail.
