The Senate Select Committee on Nutrition and Human Needs issued a considerably revised edition of dietary goals in December, 1977. The proposals and reasons for them are summarized. Some objections stated by national nutrition and medical organizations to certain aspects of the goals are specified. The second edition makes reduction of obesity its first goal, mentions alcohol, and tones down the earlier statements favoring eating less eggs and meat. A diagram compares components of current diets to proposed goals.
