Studies on optimum dose of irradiation required for controlling infestation by Sitophilus zeamais and Bruchus pisorum in grain were carried out in this experiment. The materials used in the experiment were all imagoes. Dose ranged from 0.1 k Gy to 3 k Gy. Results demonstrated that dose of 0.6-0.8 k Gy could absolutely kill adults of Sitophilus zeamais within about 20 days after irradiation. Dose of 0.8-1.0 k Gy could completely kill adults of Bruchus pisorum within 15-30 days after treatment. Biochemical studies on nutrient content of corn, wheat and rice irradiated with various doses of 0.2-2.0 k Gy were carried out. Results demonstrated that irradiation had no significant effect on the qualities of the grain mentioned above.
