The paper analyses the success of breeding for increased morphine content in the poppy variety Kompolti M between 1957 and 1993. The saturation curve fitted to the data that the morphine content of the variety is close to the maximum which can be achieved with given breeding method. No further significant increase in the morphine content can be expected in this population with breeding method in question.
