Trend of remote sensing satellites to provide higher resolution data would stimulate the wider applications of remote sensing data. Such expansion of activities would encompass all components including data reception, development applications and man-power training. Besides the passive sensors, the active sensors such as the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) would have enhanced role in providing data, especially in tropical zone. ERS-1 of European Space Agency, Radarsat of Canada and JERS-1 of Japan are such examples designed for operational use. More regional centers would be set up and the existing centers would be upgraded to take on added responsibilities. The national centers in Asia, Africa and Latin America would be strengthened in the area of data application and training. Satellite data would be incorporated into the data-based system such as the Geographic Information System. Towards the end of the twentieth century the management of natural resources and the monitoring of environmental changes would be based on multiple satellite system lined directly to the planning and decision-making bodies.
