Contains recent government reports and recommendations, including the 1989 Recommended Dietary Allowances, the 1990 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, the National Cholesterol Education Program reports, and the 1990 National Academy of Sciences recommendations for nutrition during pregnancy and lactation. New topics in this revised edition include nutrition management of psychiatric disorders and chemical dependency, and of childhood obesity, diabetes and renal disease. Each chapter includes the purpose of the diet or nutrition recommendations, appropriate use, modifications from the normal diet, related physiology, and nutritional adequacy. Also includes sample menus. Purpose is to provide health care professionals with guidelines for the nutrition care and management of both healthy and nutritionally compromised people.
