Three curculionid species Apion pisi F., Hypera variabilis Herbst and Sitona lineatus L. and an eriophyid mite, Eriophyes medicaginis K. were studied in a three years lucerne plantation for the period April 1986 to March 1987. A. pisi and H. variabilis were found to be absent from the field for a quite long period, lasting from July to October for the former and from end of June to mid November for the latter. Soon after the reappearance of adults in the field, reproduction took place. S. lineatus, although in lower numbers, was present throughout the year being mainly present on debris at the soil surface than on the aerial part of the plants. E. medicaginis developed higher population densities than in the two previous years and was more abundant during the cooler and more humid period of the year.
