Effect of date of flowering on soybean seed quality and some agronomic characteristics of soybean were studied in 6 recommended cultivars; i.e., SJ,2, SJ.4, SJ.5, CM 60, SK 1 and NS 1. The first experiment was conducted during late-rainy season in 1989. Split plot design with four replications was used. Main plots were soybean cultivars arranging in randomized complete block and subplots were flowering dates (R1-R2 vs R4-R5). The second experiment was done in dry season 1990 in greenhouse. The difference of flowering dates had no effect on seed moisture content, germination percentage and seed vigour as measured by accelerated aging technique. Seedling dry weight, number of seeds per pod, 100 seed weight, rate and duration of seed filling period were significantly different between 2 flowering dates. The late flowers (R4-R5) had a greater rate of seed filling and number of seeds per pod than the early flowers (R1-R2) but had a shorter duration of seed filling period and a lesser in 100 seed weight. Pod sets of the early developed flowers (R1-R2) were higher than that of the late developed flowers (R4-F5). Comparing between these 6 varieties, there were no significantly differences in germination percentage although seed vigours were different. The varieties that produced high seed weight showed the greater seed growth rates. Considering some agronomic characteristics, such as reproductive growth and yield components, these characteristics varied among varieties without any changes in seed yields.
