Seven growing media - the manures of poultry, cow, horse, pig, mixture of these manures, compound fertilizer mixture and topsoil were evaluated for their effects on growth of two varieties of citrus seedlings - rough lemon and Cleopatra mandarin. Topsoil was mixed in a ratio of 1:1 with the different manures to form the manure mixtures. Growth results show that rough lemon was more vigorous in growth than the mandarin and only the rough lemon attained buddable size at the end of the 6-month test period. Poultry and pig manure mixtures were superior in enhancing growth of the seedlings. The compound fertilizer mixture and the topsoil (control) were least effective, top soil showing the worst performance.
