From the results it was observed that the interaction effects of row spacings and plant populations with the mutants/parent indicated significant effect for 100 pod weight and pod yield/plot and number of primaries and pod yield/plot, respectively. The parent (Dacca-1) variety showed the highest significant mean number of pods compared to all other mutants. It also indicated the lowest significant means for the important yield components such as pod length and breadth, 100 pod and seed weights and shelling percentages. Different mutants/parent indicated significant differences for pod yield/plant but no such differences were observed when yield was considered plot wise. Mutant M-3 showed considerable yield increase though it ranked the same group with all others. Row spacings of 30 and 40 cm and populations with 18 plants/m2 and 27 plants/m2 showed highest mean yield/plot while population with 9 plants/m2 indicated highest mean yield/plant in addition to its highest significant mean numbers of primary branches and pods.
