Effect of paclobutrazol on shoot growth, flowering, fruit set, and fruit development of 'Fuji' apple trees.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of two-year application of paclobutrazol on shoot growth, flowering, fruit set, and fruit growth of 12-year old 'Fuji' apple trees. Eight grams of paclobutrazol spread on the bark in the late season of 1983 inhibited shoot growth significantly in 1984, but it was not effective at the lower rates treated either on the trunk bark or soil. However, repeated application of paclobutrazol in the spring of 1985 reduced shoot growth effectively in the current growing season even at the lower rates.
