Six hundred and fifteen soil samples were taken from 152 soil profiles which have been made throughout Greece. In these tables, besides other measurements, the percentage of organic matter, the texture and the percentage of field capacity and wilting point, were determined. In 209 soil samples the bulk density of the fine dry earth was determined. Using data from English and American soils, there were, no significant differences, found among their bulk densities that had been estimated by English or American investigators and those obtained using our method. This indicated that our method is a very good approximating one for research and practical interest. For the comparison of the available moisture per category of soil between the Greek forest and American soils it was found that they have the same and identical enough route (Table 2 and Fig. 2). This makes it clear that the available moisture of the fine earth of the soil can be estimated. On this line two ways of estimation of the available moisture per horizon, soil profile and area or per point and area were developed, using 12 categories of soils and the three general categories of soils (Tables 9 and 10). In both ways the errors introduced by the factors "available moisture of fine earth" and proportion of fine earth" were estimated while that due to the factor "Thickness of horizon or soil Depth" was considered unimportant. The confidence limits of the available moisture per profile, point and area were estimated. All these made clear that the second way of estimation is faster, lower in cost and falls within the limits of acceptable errors. Finally the research and practical importance of the methods developed in the present work are emphasized.
