The influence of five levels of sunlight interception on the development of P. montezumae Lamb., seedlings, during a growth period of three months in nursery in the central region of Mexico is analized. The interception of sunligth influenced the total height of plant, hypocotyl length, main root length, number of secondary roots, and total, radicular and aboveground dry weight. It was concluded that the best balance for growth, both aerial and radicular, and the total biomass production, involves between 40 and 70 percent of sunligth interception.
