Describes the strategies used to control and quickly eliminate infection when bovine tuberculosis was detected in a coastal Bay of Plenty, New Zealand, dairy herd during triennial surveillance testing in January 1990. The area had been clear of Tb for many years and the explosive nature and size of this outbreak concerned the local farming community greatly.
