Bermudagrass cv. Tifway was sprayed with ethephon, paclobutrazol, maleic hydrazide and inabenfide at the concentrations of 1,000 and 2,000 ppm. After it was mowed down to the height of 30 mm a single foliar application was followed. The experiment was conducted at Kasetsart University, Kampangsaen Campus, Nakhon Pathom during the rainy season between 15 August-11 September, 1991. The results, taken 4 weeks after application, showed that both concentrations of paclobutrazol and maleic hydrazide could inhibit the 'Tifway' growth. Decreasing of leaf length, internode length, number of node and height were obtained from these chemicals. However, inhibitory effects of maleic hydrazide lasted only 2 weeks while paclobutrazol remained when the experiment was terminated. No inhibition on growth was found either from ethephon or inabenfide treatments. All the 4 plant growth regulators used resulted in wider leaf blade but various degrees of turf color (darker, lighter, fading) obtained.
