For the purposes of investigating the effect of an additive for fattening pigs based on virginiamycin, lysine, copper, zinc and iron, two trials on the total of 80 animals have been carried out. Both trials were performed according to the same pattern and on an equal number of animals, divided into two groups in each trial: control group fed with mixes without stimulative additive and test group fed with mixes of the same composition but with tested additive at 0.5% level. In the test group, in both trials, better production results were obtained. Weight gain was increased by 3.4% in the first trial and by 7.9% in the second trial. Greater weight gain was accompanied by a significantly lower feed consumption per weight gain unit (by 6.98% and 8.5% respectively). Thus, savings in feed were achieved, amounting to 310 and 320 g respectively per kilo weight gain, contributing at the same time to economic production of pig fattening.
