The ovipositional behaviour of rice gall midge, Orseolio oryzae was studied in the laboratory with reference to the number and distribution of eggs and their hatching. Most of the eggs were laid around the collar region, especially on the lower surface of the leaf blades, between 21.00 and 22.00 hr. Most of the eggs were laid within 3 hours after the emergence of adults, and they hatched out on the 3rd and 4th day between 22.00 and 06.00 hr.
