Toxicity of Al to rice in sixteen soil series of the Southtern Central Plain had high ranges in exchangeable Al and active Al at 0.04-15.17 and 1.26-17.17 me l100 g soil. The factors influencing Al in both forms were pH in both H2O and KCl and exchange acidity of soil. Most of Southern Central plain soils had high to very high CEC and moderately high to very high organic matter. It had moderately low to moderately high exchangeable sodium percentage, exchange calcium, exchange magnesium and exchange K. Soil solution Al3+ highly significantly correlated with soil solution and flooded water pH. The highest soil Al, under ample supply of fertilizer did not significantly reduce growth of RD.23 rice and the highest soil solution Al3+ produced was in the tolerant range. It can be partly concluded that Al toxicity to rice growth in high to very high Al soils that received enough N,P,K fertilizers is not possible.
