Three feeding experiments were conducted on high productive dairy cows. The first two experiments defined four diet groups of cows which were fed with a different silage type: maize, cereal-and-legume mixture, alfalfa-and-grass mixture or the three types altogether. In the third experiment two groups were fed with maize silage and another two with cereal-and-legume silage. Each of the two combinations was also supplemented by low and high amounts of alfalfa-and-grass silage, respectively. The average daily milk yield ranged from 24.9 to 26.8 kg. The highest daily milk yield was recorded for cows fed with maize and alfalfa with grasses silages. The lowest daily milk yield and the highest decrease in milk performance were observed for the cereal-and-legume mixture diet. The fodder applied affected the milk composition. The blood metabolite profile indices met the standards.
