Osservazioni sull' uso delle piante officinali nel medio Novarese [Italia].

ITALIANO: E'stata studiata l'utilizzazione della flora officinale in una zona agricola del medio novarese. Le piante usate sono circa 40 su un totale di 160 piante officinali; sono sfruttate di piu le piante orticole che non quelle spontanee. Le proprieta di molte entita assai note non sono sfruttate dalla popolazione e sovente non e presa in considerazione la velenosita delle piante stesse. Malgrado queste limitazioni, e interessante notare come con un assai piccolo numero di specie vengono curate un notevole numero di malattie comuni; il maggior numero di piante e usato per le malattie delle vie respiratorie, l'artrite e i reumatismi. Per la cura di queste ultime due e da notare l'uso di impacchi di foglie asciutte di betulla e ontano; sarebbero anche da studiare in modo approfondito l'azione antiulcera dell'ortica, l'azione cicatrizzante del Rumex, alcuni usi particolari del finocchio e della bardana.

anglais. The popular use of medicinal plants in an agricultural area of the Novara district (Piemonte) has been examined. Only 40 out of the 160 medicinal species found in this area are actually used as folk remedies; preference is given to the horticultural rather than to spontaneous species. Some entities well known elsewhere for their activities are not utilized and some (e.g. Ruta graveolens) are utilized without no regard for their toxicity. In spite of the limited number of species used, a large number of the most common diseases are phytotherapeutically treated. Medicinal plants are prevailingly used in the treatment of cold, arthritis and rheumatisms; in this field it is worth noting the use of compresses of dry leaves of Betula and Alnus as well as of crushed leaves of Robina. Also original seems to be the antiulcerous activity of Urtica, the cicatrizing use of Rumex, some specific use of fennel and of Artium lappa.
