The influence of sex and castration on the growth performance of goats. Experiment 1.5a.

The 15 goats, 5 females, 5 intacts and 5 male castrates were individually fed with ipil-ipil and ground yellow corn. After 6 months of feeding the increase in weight of goats was highest during the second month. Intacts had the lowest weight gain of 7.25 kg compared to females and castrated males which gained 7.43 and 7.98 kg, respectively. Average daily gain and feed efficiency were likewise similar among treatments.
