Daily feed consumption was highest on the CB-N (Commercial Broiler-Native) mainly because of their heavier body weight. The higher feed consumption of the SCWL-N (Single Comb White Leghorn-Native) compared to the NH-N (New Hampshire-Native) could be accounted for by the higher egg production of the former compared to the latter. The SCWL-N showed the highest egg production while the native birds, the lowest. This could be an effect of upgrading, the WC-N (White Cornish-Native) and CB-N also showed low egg production, a characteristic common to meat-type chickens. The native birds on the other hand are characteristically poor egg producers. Grades of meat-type stocks (WC and CB) laid heavier eggs than the SCWL-N and the native. No definite trend was followed in the egg characteristics evaluated. The CB-N however produced eggs with the highest percentage and darkest colored yolk. On the other hand, shell thickness which indicate shell strength was highest on the SCWL-N.
